Uber communication

20-minute Uber ride has restored my faith again.

I received more communication from my Uber driver who was 7 mins away from pickup, than I've had from any guy in my orbit over the past six months.

As I was waiting for said Uber, the driver messaged to let me know he was a few minutes away.

I had to look twice at my phone.

Who was this guy willingly communicating with me? This was an unusual feeling.

I replied, saying I was waiting at the pickup spot and he arrived shortly after.

He lifted my suitcase into the boot (thank you!) and he started chatting once I was in the back seat.

I'd just arrived back in Brisbane from a weekend trip away and wasn't my usual chatty chatty self with strangers. I just wanted to get home to my cat and bed.

Yet, somehow I still managed to find out pretty much this guy's story highlights.

Which included:
  • He's been single 2.5 years
  • He has three kids (4, 9, 11?)
  • He's from NZ, moved to Brisbane 24 years ago for a girl (who he'd dated for three months, then lasted a further four once they arrived in AUS)
  • He drives Uber when he doesn't have his kids (but he can take a couple of nights off - wondering if he said this for my benefit?)
  • He pays $800 a week for a two-bed unit
  • His day job is a draftsman in the construction industry
  • He doesn't feel the cold (again, NZ)
He did ask if I had kids - no.

He also asked what I did for work and I told him, even naming the company.

I was considering asking if he wanted to go for a drink - but I wasn't sure if I was reading into this and honestly him having a four-year-old freaked me out! Waaaay too young.

Either way, this brief, 20-minute interaction has put a pep back into my step.

I don't think I was meant to meet this Uber driver to date him, rather to show me I need to get back out there again and it's not as scary as it seems.

And as my friend says, I've still got it! So that's reassuring to know.

The magic of love is just around the corner - I can sense it.

P.S. I should probably mention he was cute and mid-40s!
